Following the official announcement in August this year, on the evening of Wednesday 1st November, Restrata officially opened new Incident Management Centre (IMC) at its new premises in Provender House, Waterloo Quay, Aberdeen.
Piper Alpha lessons ‘not forgotten’
The Incident Management Centre was officially opened by the Rt Hon the Lord Cullen of Whitekirk KT. Lord Cullen, who led the inquiry into the Piper Alpha disaster on 6 July 1988, in which a gas explosion killed 167 of the 229 people on board the oil platform in the Scottish North Sea in only 22 minutes, told guests: “There are dire consequences to poor preparation, substandard communication and a failure to act before things get out of hand. I’d like to congratulate Restrata for applying their experience and expertise to achieve such a fantastic, state-of-the-art incident management facility, and I wish them continued success in their endeavours.”
Speaking of the move, VP of Workforce Development and Managed Services, Will Follett explained: “The move is in line with our continued growth and staff acquisition, and a desire to improve on our first-class facilities and provide support to clients around the globe. It also reflects our long-term commitment to invest in the oil and gas industry in Aberdeen and the North Sea.”
Craig Menzies, UK Manager, who oversees the day to day running of the IMC, which has been operating out of Aberdeen since 2012, said: “Incident management is a huge responsibility and it cannot be carried out effectively without having the required infrastructure in place. The new centre has been specifically designed to provide efficient and effective emergency response, based on our many years of experience in the region, to ensure we are well placed to assist our clients.”
