Creating Resilience at the World’s Largest Terminal

Client :  Abu Dhabi Airports Company

Date and Duration : September 2013 – Ongoing

Place of Performance :  Abu Dhabi International Airport, Abu Dhabi, UAE

ADAC is currently developing Abu Dhabi International Airport in a multi phased programme, the largest of which is the development of what will be the world’s largest airport terminal. The Midfield Terminal Building, with a capacity of 40 million passengers per year, will provide an iconic point of entry for air travelers to Abu Dhabi, and will transform the airport into a major international hub.

ADAC wished to engage a strategic security consultant to support all aspects of security development relating to the new terminal complex. Such an enormous increase in capacity, and the introduction of new systems, also exerts change on how the whole airport operates in a security context. This required that security considerations and planning extended to those for the whole airport, and not just the new terminal building.

Restrata has deployed a team of leading Aviation Security consultants to support the client and to act as subject matter experts for all projects where necessary for each stage of the development, and across the full range of aviation security subjects.

Our team have led on the development of:

  • The Security Concept of Operations for the new terminal
  • A Security Master Plan for the airport
  • Test and Commissioning Scripts
  • Production of full family of security Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • The design criteria for a new Perimeter Intrusion Detection System
  • Full security design briefs for the new security operation

The Restrata team will continue to support the project through to the opening of the new Terminal building.  Aviation Security touches every area of an airport, and Restrata is proud to be playing a role in the development of such an iconic airport project.
