BACKGROUND

Aggreko is the world’s largest temporary power generation company and a major supplier of temperature control equipment. At the end of 2009, it had a fleet of 13,000 generators ranging in size from 10 kW to 2MW, which in aggregate amounted to over 5,900MW of generating capacity. To date, they have over 144 service centres in 34 countries and customers in over 100 countries.

The Middle East and in particular the Iraqi service component of Aggreko’s product, was in need of visibility as well as supporting the HSE polices of both clients and Aggreko.

PROJECT

Aggreko approached us with the requirement to install and support an IVMS solution for Iraq fleet of vehicles as well as generators themselves. The device chosen was the 828Hyrid IVMS that enabled tracking and the monitoring of vehicles in Iraq, in order to support HSE requirements.

For operators in Iraq, it is not uncommon for drivers to be working alone in remote & hazardous terrain. Unfortunately, drivers are at risk of accidents and incidents involving company vehicles leading to injury, expensive vehicle damage, high maintenance and sadly fatality.

SOLUTIONS/SERVICES

Using data generated from Aggreko and in conjunction with continuous feedback and coaching of drivers, IVMS helped to improve drivers’ performance and by doing so contributes to a reduction of crash rates and maintenance costs. The IVMS system uses a web-based software application that allows:

  • Continuous monitoring, both passive and active tracking of the vehicle using near real-time Global Positioning System technology,
  • Maintaining a database of drivers and vehicles,
  • Geofencing, an area defined by GPS points with separate predetermined IVMS parameters, such as a speed limit within the geofenced area,
  • Definition of critical events, like speeding, driving for more than two hours without a break, non-use of seatbelts, which will immediately alert the journey coordinator.
