BACKGROUND

Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLC), situated along the northeast coast of Qatar, is one of the fastest growing industrial cities in the world.

With the anticipated volumes of cargo set to increase dramatically, the new port development is the key to the delivery of these cargoes to various parts of the world. The new port will be a world class facility, constructed in phases to accommodate the developing industries that are expected to operate in the industrial city. This phase consists of the new LNG berths, liquid cargo berth, dry docks as well as repair yards.

The dredging, reclamation and breakwaters will form part of a single contract that will enclose the area around the port. This land enhancement will include access for utilities and services for the new berths to be constructed within the port. The berths will be built on an incremental basis, with provision for at least the next 20 years. Provision has also been made for industries that are likely to be based in Ras Laffan.

PROJECT

Restrata was contracted by QP to provide extensive integration security services for the expanded port.

SOLUTIONS/SERVICES

  • Produce comprehensive security related studies and consultancy services applicable to oil/gas ports.
  • Design, supply and install a comprehensive security system to include
  • Comprehensive port wide security and access control system
  • Fence intrusion detection/movement detection cameras along the whole length of the landside internal boundary fence line
  • Extensive network of surveillance cameras
  • X-Ray, backscatter (or equivalent) and radiation monitoring systems to scan the containers and vehicles entering and leaving the port
  • Container identification portals at the X-Ray facilities together with an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system and an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system integrated via the converged VolP network to the security system
  • Metal detection and baggage scanning systems
  • Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) system to provide communications and warning to unidentified vessels approaching the port entrance
  • Security gates and associated access control along the causeways and entrances to the LNG and LP berths to control access of personnel and vehicles within the port
  • Central Traffic Monitoring System and a Signage System within the port
