Outcomes

  1. 900 staff supported: 24/7 mobile duress protection for staff carrying out higher-risk and remote work.

  2. Every alert acted on: the Control Room follows up every alert as soon as it arrives, day or night.

  3. Fast escalation when it matters: if a worker needs help or can't be reached, the Control Room escalates to New Zealand Police with their location.

  4. Warnings before staff go further: geofence alerts automatically notify staff when they enter a high-risk location.

About the Customer

The customer is a New Zealand government agency responsible for public housing.

Impact

Without a monitored system, a worker who runs into trouble may have no fast way to call for help, and a missed check-in may go unnoticed. A risk at a location may only become clear once someone has already arrived.

What the Customer Said

“The Restrata mobile duress solution provides an additional layer of support for 900 staff undertaking higher-risk and remote work activities. The combination of easy-to-use field technology, the Restrata Geofence function, and 24/7 monitoring has strengthened our ability to maintain contact with staff and respond quickly if assistance is required. We particularly value the additional Geofence capability, which provides an additional safeguard by automatically alerting our people when they enter geofenced high-risk locations.”

- Manager, Protective Security, New Zealand public housing agency.

Resolution

Restrata provides the agency with a 24/7 lone-worker service that connects field staff directly to Restrata's Control Room through a mobile app on their phones.

Key elements include:

  • Check-ins and timed tasks: staff confirm they're safe during a shift, or set a time window for a visit. If a check-in is missed, the Control Room follows up.

  • SOS alerts: one alert from the app goes straight to the Control Room, which responds in line with procedures agreed with the customer.

  • Video on alert: where enabled, the app captures video when an alert is triggered, helping operators judge the situation quickly.

  • Geofence warnings: The customer sets high-risk areas itself, and staff are alerted automatically when they enter one.

  • 24/7 Control Room: operators follow up every alert and escalate to New Zealand Police when needed, with priority escalation for staff the customer identifies as highest risk.
