Inside the Restrata Incident Liaison Officer Course: Strengthening offshore emergency response with cutting-edge training and simulations

Why Police Training for Offshore Energy Matters

The offshore energy sector operates in one of the most complex and high-risk environments in the world. With critical infrastructure spread across coastal waters, a well-coordinated response to incidents – from oil and gas platform emergencies to renewable installation threats – is essential to protect people, assets, and the environment.

That’s why the role of Police Incident Liaison Officers (ILOs) is so vital. These officers act as the bridge between law enforcement and offshore operators during emergencies, ensuring the swift, structured coordination needed in high-stakes situations.

At Restrata, we believe in building operational resilience by connecting people, processes, and technology. And that’s exactly what this training course set out to achieve.

Restrata’s Course Highlights: Bringing Together UK Police and the Energy Sector

From 26–29 May 2025, Restrata hosted the latest Police Incident Liaison Officer Training Course at our Incident Management Centre in Aberdeen.

    Participants included:

    • 11 officers from across the UK, including Police Scotland, Humberside Police, Merseyside Police, Cumbria Police, and North Wales Police
    • A Royal Navy representative from Rosyth
    • Emergency planning and response professionals responsible for offshore energy assets in UK waters

Over four days, the course delivered a practical and immersive learning experience, combining:

Using resilienceOS for Real-World Incident Simulation

A standout element of the course was the hands-on simulation powered by Restrata’s resilienceOS platform – our integrated software solution for incident and crisis management.

Participants engaged with a realistic emergency scenario, using resilienceOS to:

    • Monitor unfolding events
    • Assess impact on offshore personnel and infrastructure
    • Coordinate response actions
    • Maintain real-time communication and situational awareness

This practical application of technology gave police and military personnel a true-to-life training environment that mirrors the challenges of real-world incident response.
